Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes was a victim of a robbery by a gang of robbers who broke into his home and tried to steal his Mercedes from his garage, with one of them threatening him with a baseball bat – he fought them off by hitting the robber in the face.
Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes robbed in his own home
Gabriel was heading home after a night out when he was followed by a gang of robbers, with one of the robbers armed with a baseball bat – two of the criminals waited until he alighted from his car before demanding that the Arsenal ace hand over his mobile phone, watch and car keys.
The Brazilian defender initially obliged and heeded their demands but then fought back against the robbers – when one of the robbers lunged towards him, Gabriel struck him in the face and grabbed his hat.
The robber then escaped from Gabriel’s grip and ran out of the garage and out of the house, as his two other accomplices also made a hasty getaway from the property.
The robbery reportedly took place back in August, with the CCTV footage of the robbery now released to the public via the Metropolitan Police.
Arrested and jailed
One of the robbers, 26-year-old Abderaham Muse, whom Gabriel had grabbed when he fought back, was sentenced to 5 years in prison last month after police traced him through the DNA found in his hat (which was dropped following the tussle with Gabriel).
He was charged with one count of robbery and one count of possession of an offensive weapon – at the time of writing, his two accomplices have yet to be arrested or caught.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta also touched on the subject in a pre-match press conference on Wednesday morning, saying: “It’s not a nice thing to go through when you have family involved. Gabi showed a lot of character. Credit to the boy. After that he was fine, obviously, he was shocked. The club has given him the support to try and move on from the situation.”
