Benedict Cumberbatch has been in his fair share of cinematic epics, but he’s never featured in a blockbuster as large as Spider-Man: No Way Home. It seems 2021 has saved its biggest for last as the film was released during the final weeks of the year, and it certainly made an impact with millions of people from all around the globe. With a domestic gross of $673.5 million and counting, No Way Home looks set to become one of the highest-grossing films ever created – and there could be even more excitement coming our way!

Though the majority of the action is based on Holland, who plays Spider-Man, Cumberbatch also has a significant role in Spider-Man: No Way Home. He reprises his role as Doctor Strange and acts as a voice of reason in Peter’s multiverse-breaking actions. No Way Home is set to connect with Doctor Strange 2, which will serve as yet another MCU project for Cumberbatch as he reprises his role as the Sorcerer Supreme. The film’s title suggests that it ties directly into the concept of the multiverse while its first teaser trailer was revealed in the post-credits scene following an earlier showing of No Way Home.

Cumberbatch is currently enjoying a fair bit of success, though he’s also courting awards attention for his role in The Power of the Dog. He recently reflected on the whirlwind past year and change in an interview with Deadline, where he spoke about his thoughts on the reception to Spider-Man: No Way Home. That included fans’ reactions to the Doctor Strange 2 trailer, which meant a lot to him. Cumberbatch said:

“I’m thrilled at the reaction to the teaser trailer at the end of Spider-Man; I’m thrilled at the reaction that film’s been having. I mean, it’s been a bit of a moment, to be honest.”
