Britney Spears shared how she is grateful for all the little things that she never got to do before, following the termination of her 13-year long conservatorship that saw many aspects of her life being controlled.
Now that she has been freed from the shackles of the conservatorship, she shared how she is grateful for things such as making her own decisions and even seeing cash for the first time in more than a decade.
Britney Spears grateful for “Free Britney” movement
Britney shared how change really began to be made for her situation when the Free Britney movement started gaining momentum.
She took to Instagram to talk to her fans who fought for her freedom via the movement, and said that she’s grateful for the little things like having the keys to her car, seeing money for the first time and etcetera.
Well let’s see, I’ve been in the conservatorship for 13 years. That’s a really long time to be in a situation that you don’t want to be in. So, I’m just grateful honestly for each day and being able to have the keys to my car and being able to be independent as like a woman. Owning an ATM card, seeing cash for the first time. Being able to buy candles. It’s the little things for us women, but it makes a huge difference.
Her conservatorship situation, as well as her highly publicized mental breakdown in public, was thrust into the spotlight in a documentary about her, Framing Britney Spears, that was released back in February 2021.
It brought the public’s attention to her fraudulent conservatorship, and one might argue that it actually helped her case and legal battles against her father in court.
Britney’s father was eventually suspended from the conservatorship.
Started speaking up
Once word had started spreading and the Free Britney movement started gaining momentum, Britney Spears started speaking up about what was going on – she used her platform to update fans and attempted to alleviate their worries.
She shared her thoughts about being close to freedom and even being able to finally drive her own car.
Other notable celebrities also chimed in and wished her well as celebrations broke out following Spears’ legal victory against the conservatorship, with Lady Gaga wishing her nothing but the best and talking about the importance of mental health.
