Benedict Cumberbatch recently spoke with Empire Magazine and revealed why the actors are back on the set of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness for movie reshoots in an attempt to allay the fears of concerned fans.
Doctor Strange sequel reshooting some scenes
The upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness movie is being directed by Sam Raimi, of the original Spider-Man trilogy fame; and principal production for the film had been wrapped up for a while – the production for the movie continued despite delays arising from the pandemic.
The movie was initially set to be helmed by Scott Derrickson, who directed the first movie but left the project following creative differences and Sam Raimi was eventually brought in to take over from him.
Speaking to Empire Magazine, Benedict Cumberbatch explained that they were back on set dimple to reshoot a couple of specific scenes because of logistical issues – he said that they are in the middle of reshoots and are working incredibly hard to realize the full potential of the movie.
He added that the scenes were impossible to do initially due to delays caused by the pandemic, logistics, and etcetera which slowed down everything; but there is nothing for fans to worry about.
Teams up with Scarlet Witch
Doctor Strange returns to the MCU in the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (he does feature and plays an important role in the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home movie though), and it sees the Sorcerer Supreme teaming up with Wanda Maximoff’s Scarlet Witch (portrayed by Elizabeth Olsen).
The movie will be set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, WandaVision, and the first season of Disney+’s Loki – Doctor Strange continues his research to learn more about the Time Stone but finds himself interrupted by a friend-turned-foe and an evil force ends up being unleashed.
The movie will also see Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, and Chiwetel Ejiofor reprise their roles as Christine Palmer (Strange’s lover), Wong (Strange’s mentor and friend), and Karl Mordo (Strange’s former mentor turned enemy) respectively.
