Eternals star Lia McHugh reveals the Harry Styles scene that was cut from the film and talks about how it would’ve fit into the story. Fans were treated to a good amount of plot in Eternals, in large part thanks to its MCU connections, but there is still a good bit of it missing. It’s a shame too because there seems to be some great things featured throughout such as the scenes hinting at an “Eternal War”, but they happened off camera – so it’s up in the air as far as what got cut and why. Plot points aside, many have been talking about one iconic scene featuring Harry Styles in his small role alongside Gemma Chan’s Sersi. The clip had fans talking and wondering where this would have fit into the final film, but according to actress Lia McHugh it would’ve come during a montage set between her and Angelina Jolie’s Thena taking care of business.
Even if you haven’t seen the movie, you have probably heard about both these scenes: The first involves Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman and an unseen Blade (Mahershala Ali) who are discussing something apparently quite relevant to what happened in Wakanda. The second is aesthetically marked by Eros aka Starfox who bumps into a random group of people on the street. However, it turns out he was actually looking for Captain America as they were “old family friends”.
In a recent interview with Inverse, McHugh clarified Styles actually shot an alternate ending that was meant to parallel an earlier scene involving Sprite. She said:
I actually didn’t have a scene with him. [His scene] was a scene that was cut. It was parallel to the very first scene of us arriving on Earth. It was an alternate ending that didn’t end up working out. We shot it on the same day [as our scene], because it was virtually the same. It was the same shot. They were just switching out characters.
