On November 5 2021, Eternals was released to theatres and became one of the business’ biggest premiere. One of Hollywood’s most expensive productions up to this point with a budget of $200 million and an incredible reshoot process that cost an additional $100 million across six months, the critical reception for Eternals was nothing short of polarizing in the eyes of critics as it received the lowest rating for an MCU film on Rotten Tomatoes but still remains as one of Marvel Studios’ historic achievements.
The opening for this film this summer is bigger than that of Black Widow and Shang-Chi put together. In fact, it performed extremely well overseas, earning $401.9 million globally making it the eighth highest-grossing film domestically in the US. Not bad at all when considering the box office performance of other MCU movies released this summer! It’s little wonder so many people are beginning to talk about Eternals as one of their favorite films of Phase 4. And after watching this movie my opinion is pretty similar
Eternals: Streamed to 2 millions household on Disney Plus
Disney’s powerhouse Marvel Studios and streaming service Disney+ has made a fantastic start with the release of Eternals and many new series The first trailer for Eternals collected 16 million views within its first 24 hours, whereas What If accumulated more than 16 million in 18 hours. Overall, it seems that many people were waiting for MCU projects to make their way onto Disney+. Marvel TV shows reached 26 million viewers at their peak between October 2018 – September 2019. The numbers represent an 8% increase from 2017-18 figures by this point in time.
With the strong box office intake worldwide for a pandemic, and now the impressive Disney+ premiere numbers for Eternals, it is safe to say that the film is more successful than it was at its original release.
