Halle Berry’s Oscar didn’t help her career at the time – The actress shared how her Best Actress Oscar win for the movie Monster’s Ball did little to help her career at the time as she thought that it would launch her career onto even greater heights.

Halle Berry’s Oscar didn’t help her career

Speaking during an interview with Variety, Halle Berry reflected on her Oscar win for Best Actress for the movie Monster’s Ball, thinking that it would lead to her getting new scripts and she could have a pick of any project that she wanted. However, things didn’t turn out the way she wanted and she described her situation as “suffering from just being a pretty face”.

I thought the script truck was going to back up to my door and dump them all off. That’s my naivete.

I’ve got a historic win. Clearly, this is going to mean this struggle is going to be indelibly easier for me. And that just didn’t happen.

Weeks went by, and finally, it set in. Oh, I have this award, and I can’t go anywhere now without someone knowing my name.

But within the industry, the big famous directors, no one called.

My reality went back to normal, and I was still suffering from ‘just being a pretty face.’

Halle Berry‘s Oscar win was historic, because her award made her the first Black woman in history to win in the category (for Best Actress), and it was made all the more remarkable with the award coming relatively early in her career.

Of course, looking back at her career now, the actress has achieved many, many things since her historic Oscar win; Halle Berry was recently awarded the Career Achievement Award at the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Black Cinema event.
