Jungle Cruise 2 confirmed to be in the works

Speaking to Collider, the producer of Jungle Cruise, Hiram Garcia, who worked on the first movie through Dwayne Johnson‘s Seven Bucks productions; confirmed that the sequel to the first movie is in development.

We have an idea of what we want for the story, and we’re [in] the process of just pushing that along and honing it.

But, yeah, it’s an ongoing process, and we are cooking with it, and it is in development.

It’s part of the game of this business where our job as producers is to keep several boulders moving and we’re pushing each one up just a little bit at a time every day trying to get it over the hill ready to go to be green-lit and shot.

Jungle Cruise is one of those that’s a priority, and we spend a lot of time pushing that boulder every day.

Jungle Cruise was a movie that was 17 years in the making, and had been in development since 2004, and went through numerous revisions before the productions pushed through in 2018. It was originally planned for a 2019/2020 release but got pushed back due to the global pandemic. And when the movie was finally released earlier this year, it grossed $220 million globally against a production budget of $200 million.

However, the movie opened to mixed reviews with critics lamenting the movie’s overused and cliche plotlines that have been used many times in films of the same genre. But audiences still loved the movie because of its family-friendliness. Despite the negative reviews, the movie is widely considered to be a success commercially.
