Kevin Feige – MCU is ready

Speaking to Collider, Kevin Feige said that Marvel has been planting the seeds for an epic multiverse to be brought to reality and with more than 20 movies, there is enough material and characters for them to do so.

Feige cited an example from Doctor Strange when The Ancient One mentioned the multiverse in the first movie during a scene when she took Stephen Stange on a journey through a mind warp. Feige said that the multiverse is one of the most powerful storytelling tools in the comics and has to be used carefully because it can get overwhelming. He added that now, with a 20 plus history of the movies, there are enough characters to play around with the multiverse concept.

He also spoke about how the multiverse will affect and change the MCU in a dramatic way, and that any big event always has a lasting effect on the universe, which allows Marvel Studios the opportunity to do more in terms of storytelling.

Multiverse not new to MCU

The concept and idea of the multiverse was mentioned several times in 2016’s Doctor Strange, as well as in 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, when Mysterio told Peter parker that he was from another dimension – it isn’t exactly new to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

And although what Mysterio told Peter Parker was actually a lie, it did hint at the existence of the multiverse back then, and is little surprise to see the concept of the multiverse being brought into focus by Marvel Studios.
