Ending a film on a sad note is not always a bad thing as it allows for time and reflection to reinforce the message behind the story. Unfortunately, Spider-Man: No Way Home ended in a pretty somber tone. The character suggested that Zendaya’s character had forgotten Peter Parker because they didn’t remember seeing each other at all anymore. This may have obviously lead fans to wonder if this would put an end to the potential romance between Peter and MJ in future films.

Peter Parker and MJ finally became an item in Spider-Man: Far From Home. In the film, Peter gives MJ a Black Dahlia necklace and the pair eventually reveal their love for one another. However, their happiness was fleeting. A post-credits scene revealed that Peter Parker’s true identity as Spider-Man is now public knowledge – causing chaos into their dating life and college dreams. So obviously, he went to Doctor Strange for help in the situation, leading to all of the Multiverse chaos in No Way Home as seen in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.

Despite Peter and MJ doing their best to move on with their lives, one moment in Homecoming No Way Home hints at a possible reconciliation for the pair. At the end of the film when Peter (Tom Holland) returns back to Mary Jane (Zendaya) and Ned there on the couch, he realizes that he should be honest about his love life as Ned asks him if “a key unlocks more than a door”. Maybe he was referring to his romantic feelings towards Spider-Man. If so this could have ended with Peter later revealing true identity as spider man to his love interest

Fans said that this is a cliffhanger to keep fans hook on future Spider-Man films, but many fans said that no other new Spider-Man movie will top this unless all three Spider-man is in the movie again.
