Disney has just announced that they will be producing a sequel to their MCU box office hit Shang-Chi and it’s going to star the same cast from the original.
The first film was directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and many people were waiting for its release after delay issues with COVID-19 as well as various problems with its script during development. Despite all this, the film earned rave reviews from critics, especially breaking records at the box office becoming one of the highest-grossing movies in 2021, and winning an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.
Shang-Chi stars Simu Liu in the titular role as the hero raised by his father Wenwu to be a powerful fighter and weapons expert. The 16th film is based on Marvel’s famous comic, it also stars Tony Leung, Awkwafina, Meng’er Zhang, Fala Chen, and Michelle Yeoh. Directed and co-written by Destin Daniel Cretton from a script he co-wrote with Dave Callaham, Shang-Chi has recently been released to positive reviews from critics of note.
Another MCU movie based on a fan-favorite character is on its way! Shang-Chi 2 is really happening! Deadline has reported that Chinese director Destin Daniel Cretton who’s best known for writing and directing the amazing film, “Short Term 12” will helm this second venture.
Meanwhile, Kevin Feige said in a statement that:
“Destin is an amazing collaborator who brought a unique perspective and skill to Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. We had a fantastic time working together on the film and he has so many intriguing ideas for stories to bring to life on Disney+, so we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with him and can’t wait to get started.”
