Simu Liu not surprised by Shang-Chi sequel news – the Shang-Chi actor, who became the first Asian to become the leading actor of a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, shared that he wasn’t at all surprised that the movie was greenlit for a sequel.
Simu Liu not surprised by sequel, knew it was coming
Speaking during an interview with Phase Zero, Simu Liu said that the movie’s overwhelming success meant that a sequel was pretty much imminent, and he also cited the return of director Destin Daniel Cretton for the sequel to be a relief for him as he is eager to resume their collaboration on the sequel.
Liu was asked when did he find out and what his first reaction was, he said: “I guess I wasn’t the most surprised given everything that had happened, but I’m so relieved to hear that he was confirmed to come back. Again, not a surprise, but it’s just so good to feel the engine turning again and to be like, great, great, we get to tell more story and delve deeper into the characters and hopefully provide more of those badass fight sequences.”
Not much is known about what is going to happen in Shang-Chi 2, in terms of the plot details and storylines, with the sequel having only been announced; there is still work to be done on the script-writing front and whatnot.
But based on the end-credits scene in the first movie, some fans are wondering if the sequel could feature Doctor Strange with Wong, Bruce Banner and Captain Marvel all featuring in the post-credits scene – Carol Danvers and Bruce Banner were seen in the post-credits scene researching the origins of the rings and they discovered that it was a beacon to something; while Wong was seen at the end of the movie summoning Shang-Chi and Katy to Kamar-Taj.
