The Batman set for HBO Max release in April 2022 – WarnerMedia CEO Jason Killar said that Matt Reeves’ The Batman is set to be released on HBO Max a month after its release in cinemas.

The Batman set for HBO Max release

Speaking to Vox’s Recode, Jason Killar said that The Batman will be released on HBO Max on 19 April next year, exactly 46 days after its cinema run, which is expected to run for 45 days.

Think about when movies would show up on HBO, which is eight to nine months after theatrical premiere.

The Batman is going to show up on day 46 on HBO Max, that is a huge change from where things were in 2018, 2017 and 2016.

I feel really, really good, knowing that The Batman, and Black Adam, and The Flash, and Elvis, and a whole host of other movies, are literally going to be showing up on day 46 on HBO Max in a variety of terriroties all over the world.

That is a very, very big change that I don’t think people appreciate, and I feel really good about it.

WarnerMedia restrategized their movie releases to take into account the closures of movie theaters and lockdowns that arose because of the pandemic, starting with Wonder Woman 1984, and it was met with an outcry from the industry -they released the movies onto HBO Max alongside their theatrical run for movies like Dune and The Matrix Resurrections.

However, with movie theaters reopening, Jason Killar said that Warner. Bros would release their movies to theaters first before HBO Max instead of a simultaneous run, although their theatrical run will be a shorter window of 45 days.

Highly anticipated

The Batman is one of the most highly anticipated movie releases of the year, with the iconic Dark Knight set to be played by actor Robert Pattinson and starring Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, Paul Dano, and Colin Farrell.

The Batman will be released in cinemas on 4 March 2022.
