Tom Holland confirmed to play Fred Astaire
AP Entertainment posted a video of Tom Holland being interviewed at a promotional event in London for Spider-Man: No Way Home, with the actor confirming that he will be portraying the late Hollywood legend Fred Astaire in an upcoming movie.
Holland said in the video that he will be playing Fred Astaire and that the script “came in a week ago” but he hasn’t read it yet. He said that Sony producer Amy Pascal has the script and was Face-Timing him earlier while he was in the bath.
Aside from the upcoming Fred Astaire biopic, Tom Holland also has a highly-anticipated Uncharted movie based on the popular video game coming up in February 2022, where he will be portraying the main character, Nathan Drake. Not to mention the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home movie coming out in a little over a week.
Late Hollywood great
Fred Astaire was the king of Broadway musicals in a long career that spanned 76 years, and he passed away at the age of 88 in 1987. His talent and grace as a talent were apparent in his musical films and quickly became a fan favorite, with productions growing and improving over time. But despite the actor’s popularity and talent during his heyday, he never did win an Oscar despite being nominated for one for 1975’s The Towering Inferno.
Tom Holland is also no slouch when it comes to his career and is a long way from achieving Fred Astaire’s greatness, but with an impressive and ever-expanding resume of blockbuster movies to his name, he looks to be in good stead to emulate the late Hollywood great.
