Tom Holland keen on recreating Spider-Man’s iconic kiss – The Spider-Man actor expressed his interest in recreating the iconic kiss scene from 2002’s Spider-Man between Tobey Maguire’s Spidey and Kirsten Dunst’s Mary Jane Watson.

Tom Holland keen on upside-down kiss

Speaking to CinemaBlend during a promotional interview for Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Holland expressed his interest in recreating the iconic upside-down kissing scene from the first Spider-Man movie between Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Kirsten Dunst‘s Mary Jane Watson.

Tom Holland, however, then got up and invited his co-star Jacob Batalon to remake the scene instead of his love interest in the movie, Zendaya; leading him away from the camera as Zendaya sat back and laughed while telling Batalon to harness up.

Iconic kiss scene

Spider-Man was hanging upside-down in the rain after saving Mary Jane Watson from a bunch of robbers in the first Spider-Man movie, and she then took off half of his mask while kissing the upside-down superhero in the pouring rain – that kissing scene won the 2003 MTV Movie Award for best kiss, among other accolades.

The kiss is commonly referenced and recreated by many fans, even being parodied by Jack Black and Sarah Michelle Gellar in the 2003 MTV Movie Awards, it was also recreated as part of the backstory for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Director Sam Raimi also recalled Tobey Maguire almost drowning during the kissing scene, with large drops of cold water being poured over the two actors when setting up the scene which lasted for several minutes, resulting in Maguire being barely able to breathe because the water was falling down into his upside-down nostrils.

And though the iconic kissing scene probably isn’t going to be recreated in the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home movie, there is still plenty for fans to look forward to, with villains from the past Spider-Man movies coming to the fore to take on the current incarnation of Spidey and quite possibly setting up the infancy of the Sinister Six.

Spider-Man: No Way Home opens in swings into cinemas on December 17, 2021, don’t miss it!
