Waukesha, Wisconsin -The parade was meant to be a joyful occasion for the community and many children who attended the parade were seen smiling only to be traumatized moments later.
The incident happened along Main Street In the Milwaukee suburb, the area was cordoned off for a Christmas parade on 21st November 2021 at about 4.40 PM.
A red SUV dashed through the barricades and plow a large group of people who are attending the parade which includes high school students.
The New York Times reported that at least 5 people were killed and 40 others sustained injuries.
A witness on the scene posted on Twitter stating: “It happened so fast and everyone started to panic, in a blink of an eye we saw 5-6 people on the ground“
Another witness said that it was like a “vehicle mowing the streets”.
The authorities said in a press release that “a person of interest” has been detained.
According to Twitter user DanO’Donnell, he said that the man who was detained is a “38-year-old domestic abuse suspect who just posted $1,000 cash bond in a domestic abuse and bail jumping case on Friday.”
“Public schools in Waukesha will be closed on Monday”, The Police added
The joyous occasion ended with heartbreaks and anger.

One of the videos was the red SUV crashing through the barricades and many others showing the aftermath of the incident.
One video was uploaded on Facebook and it managed to capture screams and panic the moment the vehicle hit the group of performers.
